SPIE acquires Controlec, strengthening its operations in the Netherlands
SPIE, which has been present in the Netherlands for many years, has just announced the takeover of Controlec by its subsidiary SPIE Benelux in a deal that is expected to be finalised by the end of the year. Controlec, sold by its parent company SAG GmbH, provides engineering, installation and maintenance services to industry in the areas of electricity, instrumentation and automation. Formed in 1971 and based in Schiedam near Rotterdam, Controlec has sales of around €55 million and a staff of 450, and will join SPIE Nederland, which has sales of €117 million and 1,000 employees. The remarkable quality of its skills and its customer portfolio will enable SPIE Nederland to broaden both the range of services it offers to industry and its industrial customer base. "Our purchase of Controlec is an example of the dynamic acquisition-based growth strategy we are pursuing in Europe. Our new shareholder PAI Partners fully backs this strategy," says Gauthier Louette, Chief Executive Officer of SPIE. In the words of Patrick Waterkeyn and Lei Ummels, respectively the Chief Executive Officers of SPIE Benelux and SPIE Nederland, the acquisition of Controlec strengthens SPIE's positions in industry and will allow the company to grow. For them, the objective is to become one of the major companies in the Netherlands as the market consolidates and Controlec represents a very important first step towards reaching this goal.
