SPIE appoints Lieve Declercq as managing director of SPIE Nederland

Cergy, June 15th, 2017 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in energy and communications, has appointed Lieve Declercq as successor to Lei Ummels with effect from September 1st 2017. As managing director of SPIE Nederland, she is also the first female ‘top boss’ in the technical services in the Netherlands.

Lieve Declercq, aged 51, studied for her Masters degree in industrial engineering and management in Leuven (Belgium). From 1990 to 2000, she worked in various positions at Esso Benelux BV, followed by two years as marketing director for the Van Gansewinkel group, and then 10 years as managing director at the Maltha Groep BV. From 2012, Lieve Declercq worked for water company Vitens as executive chairman.

Lieve Declercq declared: "As the independent European leader in multi-technical services SPIE promotes a green economy in all aspects of its activity. I have always believed in a future that is sustainable for the next generations. For me, it is an honour that I contribute to this future with SPIE and their professionals”.

At the end of 2016, after Lei Ummels had announced that he would be voluntarily giving up his position as the managing director of SPIE Nederland on October 1st 2017 to take advantage of his early retirement pension, the process of finding a suitable successor started.

Gauthier Louette, chairman and CEO of the SPIE Group commented: “SPIE Nederland is developing rapidly, and I’m convinced that Lieve is the right person to lead our Dutch subsidiary. We are delighted to welcome Lieve to the SPIE Group Executive Committee. I would like to thank Lei for his extensive contribution to the company and wish him all the very best for the future.”

“Lieve’s appointment is prompted by the need to give more shape to this stage of the growth within SPIE Nederland and to ensure steady progress,” added Jos Benders, chairman of the Supervisory Board of SPIE Nederland. He thanks Lei for successfully establishing the foundations that have made SPIE Nederland what it is today.
