SPIE awarded a contract by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region to manage the energy facilities of 30 schools

Saint-Denis, 28 January 2021 – SPIE Facilities, a French subsidiary of the SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is continuing its work on behalf of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region to manage the energy facilities of 30 schools.

A collaboration renewed for the next 8 years

Since 2011, SPIE Facilities has been a partner of the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine for the operation of the energy installations of around 20 high schools in the region. The positive results for the 2011-2019 period have enabled SPIE Facilities to implement all the elements to once again be awarded new contracts for high school maintenance by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Over the next eight years, the teams will be responsible for operating and running the collective heating, hot water for sanitary use, ventilation and general electricity supply equipment for 30 establishments, while maintaining a strong commitment to energy performance.

“It's very satisfying for our teams to be able to contribute to the best energy performance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region,” says Cyril Pouet, Managing Director of SPIE Facilities. “Most public buildings were built before 1975 and have unfavourable characteristics in terms of energy consumption; this is a great challenge for our teams. Action towards reducing the carbon footprint and energy costs of buildings is essential for the French regions. SPIE's activities fully play their part in this,” he continues.

Trusted partner in the operation of energy facilities

The added value of SPIE Facilties' teams lies largely in their technical expertise and their recognised experience in operating green energy facilities.

This know-how is essential to effectively manage and maintain the solutions implemented by the Region, including:

• A 960 kW biomass boiler room at the Guynemer college / Cité scolaire Jules Supervielle in Oloron-Sainte-Marie (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) supplied with wood from the ONF (French National Forestry Office), thus ensuring a short primary energy supply circuit and covering nearly 70% of the school's heating requirements
• A 560 kW heat pump installed in a geothermal doublet system* at the Grand Air college in Arcachon (Gironde), making it possible to decarbonise almost all of the school's heating needs
• A 440 kW heat pump in a geothermal doublet system at the Sud des Landes college in Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse (Landes) making it possible to decarbonise 95% of the school’s heating needs.
• A heating system based on the use of thermal water that will cover 90% of the school’s heating needs from the beginning of 2021 at the De Borda college in Dax (Landes)

The renewal of this contract is a further illustration of the relevance of the energy efficiency division of SPIE Facilities. It strives to optimise energy consumption and practices and is committed to helping its customers in their ambitions to decarbonise their activities.
