SPIE Belgium stimulates innovation amongst its suppliers

Great success for the first Belgian edition of the SPIE Suppliers Innovation Challenge

Brussels, October 10th, 2016 – In April 2016, SPIE Belgium invited its suppliers to participate in the first edition of its Innovation Challenge. The objective: identify those who truly prioritise innovation in terms of product, service or organisation. Prizes will be awarded to the 10 companies selected on 8 December.

For many years, innovation has been a strategic priority for SPIE Belgium which it was keen to share with its suppliers this year.

In April 2016, the SPIE Belgium Purchasing Department therefore created the Suppliers Innovation Challenge in order to identify its partners which have demonstrated one or more innovations in terms of product, service or organisation. Nearly forty suppliers responded to the call and submitted their application with no less than 159 different projects. After the closure of applications in May, the jury, made up of several SPIE Belgium employees from various departments, analysed all the files. It then organised the projects into five categories: breakthrough innovation, environmental and CSR impact, economic impact, safety and supply chain.

From the 159 projects submitted, the jury selected ten – two per category - which are to be awarded the innovation trophy on 8 December.

Manu De Keuster, Purchasing Director at SPIE Belgium, is very pleased with the level of participation and the enthusiasm shown by the suppliers: "At SPIE Belgium, we choose our suppliers with great care and make sure both that they offer goods or services of the best possible quality and also that they share our values and understand our priorities.

This year, we decided to introduce the Suppliers Innovation Challenge in order to honour those who make extra effort in terms of innovation. The number of applications filed shows the extent to which our suppliers also give genuine priority to this value."
