SPIE optimises energy consumption at Villeroy & Boch

The German subsidiary of the independent European leader in the areas of energy and communication services has signed a construction and operation contract for an electric power plant in the industrial sector.

Essen, 10 February 2014 – SPIE GmbH has just signed a contract with Villeroy & Boch for the construction of a high-performance electric power plant in the Mettlach (Sarre) sanitary fittings factory.

This operation consists in replacing the power supply currently provided by a steam generator by a high-performance electric power plant. This power plant, which will be operated by SPIE GmbH for the next ten years, will enable the company to achieve savings in the region of 25% of the electricity costs for the site. At the same time, SPIE GmbH has given a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions from the factory by more than 5,000 tonnes a year.

The facilities will include a 2 megawatt electricity and heat cogeneration unit, and a boiler producing two times 3.5 megawatts. In order to spread the heat efficiently, SPIE GmbH will install an efficient local heating system over a radius of more than two kilometres.

Delivery of the new facilities is planned for as early as April 2014.
