SPIE rolls out very low voltage security installations in the Brussels Metro

Brussels, 13 December 2018 – SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been selected as partner to roll out and upgrade the very low voltage security installations on the capital’s Metro system. The work began last October and will last three years.

Bruxelles Mobilité, which manages the metro and pre-metro infrastructure for STIB in Brussels, is responsible for ensuring the continuity of the service and the upgrading of equipment in stations, tunnels and certain depots of the capital’s Metro system.

SPIE Belgium won a recent call for tenders for the renovation and extension of the very low voltage electrical security installations for the metro and pre-metro networks in the Brussels-Capital Region, thanks to its technical expertise, its proximity, the quality of the service offered, and its availability.

The work relates to nearly 3,500 cameras, 500 km of cables, a data centre and at least 5 stations to be completely renovated.

The project requires the on-site presence of 40 employees in the day, and 15 at night. It will involve a wide range of skills: the installation of videoprotection systems, radio-telecommunications for the Tetra and Astrid networks, the installation and replacement of fibre optic cables, telephony, data administration and storage, the fitting out of technical premises, time distribution, access control, etc.

The challenge of this project is twofold: to meet the client’s multiple requirements, and to provide a very high quality service without the use of subcontractors.

Jonathan Debève, a senior project manager at SPIE Belgium, is proud of having won this call for tenders with his team: “We have been working with Bruxelles Mobilité for the past ten years. This is the fourth time the project has been renewed. Each year, the renewed trust allows us to gain new skills and widen the range of services provided.”
