Greater Lyon (Grand Lyon) chose SPIE Sud-Est to upgrade and improve the safety of the city’s Fourvière tunnel which has an average traffic flow of 110,000 vehicles a day.

Work on the tunnel’s two 1,860-metre long tubes is being carried out by teams from the Information Systems and Transport Infrastructures division (SIT) over a 13-month period with a strict schedule to minimise the impact on traffic. A major portion of the work will be done at night.

This work comprises:

  • Upgrading safety equipment to bring video cameras, communication systems , emergency call stations and automatic control devices up to standard
  • Ventilation
  • Drainage
  • Accessibility for the disabled
  • Road resurfacing

The manpower assigned to this work will peak at 100 employees.

At the same time, SPIE Sud-Est is renovating the technical equipment used by the tunnel control station. Civil engineering and ventilation work is being carried out by local partner companies under the supervision of SPIE Sud-Est.
