SPIE UK Engineering Director George Adams Appointed President of CIBSE

London, 10th May 2013 - SPIE, the independent European leader in electrical and mechanical engineering and HVAC services, energy and communication systems, has today announced that George Adams, Engineering Director at SPIE UK, is to become the President of CIBSE, effective immediately. The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is the professional body that is committed to creating safe, sustainable living and working environments.

George Adams to provide CIBSE with a contractors view on important industry issues.

George has been a member of CIBSE for more than 30 years and fulfils CIBSE’s desire for a president with a contracting background to help expand and develop their view of the industry. His business experience ranges from consulting work, designing, managing sites, turnkey “design and build” through to engineering management of large teams. As President, George will provide leadership that supports an engineer’s role in creating quality buildings that perform efficiently, whilst also embracing the drive to address wider issues that affect CIBSE membership, such as diversity, integration and provision of thought leadership. CIBSE promotes competence through education, training and professional registration and by delivering up-to-date knowledge of the art, science and engineering of the built environment through its membership networks, publications and research.

George Adams, explains, “Through our Green Economy initiative, SPIE shares many of the same aims and objectives as CIBSE in relation to climate change, energy efficiency and the move towards a more integrated and sustainable industry. It is essential that practicing engineering organisations should contribute to the improvement of their industry and being part of professional institutions is an efficient way of doing that. Being president offers the opportunity to listen and understand the needs of the membership, and voice a collective view on important issues that affect our profession, and the role that it has in addressing the needs of the wider community.”

James Thoden van Velzen, CEO of SPIE UK, said, "I am delighted for George, his appointment as CIBSE President reflects not only his own commitment to engineering excellence, but also the very high standards achieved by himself and our Central Engineering & Design Department at SPIE UK."
