Chambray-lès-Tours, 25 June 2014 – SPIE Ouest-Centre invited businesses and local authorities in the Tours urban area, in France, to come and learn more about electric mobility at its site in Chambray-lès-Tours on 26 June.
In conjunction with the unveiling of its new premises, SPIE Ouest-Centre – in partnership with Renault – offered local authorities and firms the chance to get hands-on experience of electric mobility. The advantages of this new mode of transport, such as lower energy consumption, lower costs, reduced carbon emissions and driving comfort, are well-known but the rollout of electric mobility in France remains limited.
To maximise the effect of this presentation, Renault provided the visitors with a choice of electric cars (Kangoo Z.E and Zoe) and its Twizy electric quadricycle for test drives. SPIE Ouest-Centre also demonstrated the use of vehicle charging stations in a special display area.
This presentation also gave the guests the opportunity to discover the wide range of SPIE Ouest-Centre’s business activities centred on its Chambray-lès-Tours site (including electrical engineering, external networks, telecommunications, HVAC, motorway installations and energy efficiency) as well as its smart city offering, reflecting its determination to step up its local development.
More than 700 electric vehicles in the SPIE Group
As a founding member of the electric vehicle procurement consortium initiated in 2010 by La Poste and managed by UGAP*, SPIE is one of 19 major companies seeking to maximise the use of electric vehicles in their business operations.
By 2015, the Group will have acquired 330 commercial vehicles with a capacity of 3 m3 and 400 two-seater company vehicles. Electric vehicles will eventually represent 10% of the Group’s overall fleet. In the commercial vehicle category, that proportion will reach 17%. SPIE’s participation in this procurement consortium is helping to generate the impetus required for full-scale development of an industrial and commercial sector for electric vehicles in France (including automobile manufacturers, battery suppliers, rental firms, and charging equipment manufacturers and installers). That is also the aim of SPIE and Renault’s joint campaign to promote the installation of electric vehicle charging stations all over France.
