State-of-the-art building technology in a new outpatient surgery centre

In 2019, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa planned and installed the electrotechnical infrastructure for the new outpatient operating centre of Dr. Michael Wiesend in Montabaur, Germany. The state-of-the-art building technology meets the severe hygiene standards applied in clinics.

Offices, eight treatment rooms and two operating theatres were built on more than 2,000 square metres. SPIE supported the planning of the entire electrical engineering and carried out the basic installations for lighting and power supply, as well as  the deployment of the fire and burglar alarm system, the PA and nurse-call system and the EDP / network technology.

According to the DIN 1946-4 standard, healthcare rooms are divided into room classes 1 and 2. Subcategories 1a and 1b include operating theatres, while class 2 applies to the other operating department and examination rooms.  The operating theatres of this centre belong to room class 1a. Ventilation systems, for example, must meet hygiene requirements during planning, construction, acceptance and operation that are otherwise only common in clinics. Of course, all other regulations, for example on energy supply, are also complied with. In the event of a power failure, an uninterruptible power supply for the operating theatres of the practice, including the medical equipment, must be guaranteed for at least three hours. SPIE have installed a battery-supported central power supply system (BSV system) which guarantees the continued supply of energy in the event of a failure or interruption of the general power grid.
