Valenciennes: Former Hainaut hospital is being converted into apartments and a luxury hotel

The former general hospital in Valenciennes is the city’s largest old building and it is also the biggest historic edifice undergoing privately-funded renovation in France.

Renovation work is scheduled to take more than two years. This major project will transform the building with a total floor area of 32,000 sq. m. into a five-star hotel and high-class dwellings boasting top-quality installations.

Built in the 18th century, the general hospital has been variously used as a prison, a military hospital and a retirement home. This historically significant site will come back to life in 2016 as a 78-room luxury hotel and high-class apartments. SPIE Ile-de-France Nord-Ouest is carrying out work worth nearly €2.5 million to install electrical systems, a fire safety and access control system and external lighting.
